NEWPORT Sea Cadets received a £10,000 boost when they had a visit from councillor Matthew Evans, who presented youngsters with a cheque for that amount - their share as a chosen charity of the more than £40,000 he raised during his recently completed term as Mayor of Newport.
The 342nd mayor of Newport, councillor Evans and his deputy David Attwell attended more than 400 events during the year.
Councillor Evans was determined that a major charity fundraising effort would be a key part of his term in office, and with the help and generosity of countless people, he raised a total of £42,000.
The remaining £32,000 of that total has been donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
