THOUSANDS attended Caldicot’s rejuvenated carnival as it passed through the town yesterday (Sun).

Organisers said the Caldicot Carnival attracted about 2,000 people who were not discouraged by poor weather in the morning and early afternoon.

Mayor of Caldicot and chairman of the Caldicot events committee David Evans said: “It has been a good turnout. It was well organised coming down from the playing fields. The only thing is the weather let us down but saying that the people have stuck with us.”

Cllr Evans said the carnival was to “let the people in Caldicot know things have been going on and people are prepared to give their time up so the community can enjoy the day.”

It saw a reintroduction of floats to the carnival’s procession after a few years of it simply being a walking procession.

The procession passed through the town centre and the floats went to Jubilee Way before meeting back up on Church Road. They then passed to Caldicot Castle for the start of the carnival.

Groups who took part included Caldicot Scouts, the Galaxy Cheer squad and Caldicot Running Club.
