AN ESSENTIAL £360,000 upgrade to the wastewater network in Abergavenny will take more than over four months to complete.
D?r Cymru Welsh Water said the scheme will alleviate flooding to properties during periods of heavy rainfall.
Work will start in Richmond Road on July 13 to upgrade a drainage pipe that will help to alleviate flooding. which is currently being experienced by some customers in the area.
This phase of work is likely to take around three weeks to complete.
The majority of work will then take place on Grosvenor Road, between the junctions at Clifton Road and Hereford Road. Work will also be required on Heol Hamlin, where a site office and storage area will be situated in the car park.
Grosvenor Road will be closed to traffic for 11 weeks between August 12 and 30 October 30 to enable engineers to carry out the work safety but residents will be given access at all times.
There will also be a small section of work at the junctions of Clifton Road and Grosvenor Road where it will be necessary for us to use temporary four way traffic lights for around one week.
Welsh Water’s programme manager, Shaun O’Leary, said: “We have written to those customers directly affected by these works to try to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. There will be no disruption to water or wastewater services whilst we carry out this work.”
Mr O’Leary said the upgrade is necessary to alleviate flooding to properties during periods of heavy rainfall.
