POLICE have now finished investigating an incident where nine pupils were taken to hospital after taking an 'unknown substance' at Llanwern High School earlier this month.
Eight girls and a one boy aged between 11 and 14 were taken to Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport on June 18 after reportedly feeling unwell.
Eight of the children were released from hospital the same day (June 18), and one 14-year-old girl was released the following day.
A Gwent Police spokesman said: "Despite early intervention and enquiries by officers, it hasn’t been possible to establish the nature of the substance involved.
"No further police action will be taken in relation to enforcement."
Since the incident local officers have worked closely with the school to give appropriate advice and support to pupils, and this will continue through the All Wales School Liaison Programme.
Local Inspector, Kevin Warren said:
“The school has dealt with this incident with the highest degree of professionalism and tact.
“Swift action was taken following the incident to manage any risks involved, and we have worked together to provide pupils and parents with further advice and support.”
