TWO Newport siblings will be taking on a sponsored run for St David’s Hospice next month.
Steven Cook, 12, a student at Bassaleg Primary School, and Rebecca Cook, eight, a pupil at Rogerstone Primary, will be running the 10k and 5k challenges at Tredegar House on July 25.
The siblings, who are keen parkrunners, were moved to take on the challenge after attending a St David’s charity night organised by Phil Bessant Ltd in the city earlier this year.
Their father, David Cook, 55, said: “We’ve had the Big C in the family in the past few years and the kids wanted to do something.
“They’ve done so well so far and my wife, Belinda, and I are just so proud of them.
“They may yet decide to do it next year and the year after, too.”
Through various wine taster events and golf days, Phil Bessant Ltd has raised more than £9,000 for the hospice this year – which has already eclipsed its original target of £5,000.
Mr Bessant, who runs the chartered accountant company, said: “It’s all for a good cause and to have such a great local charity literally around the corner is brilliant.
“We want to give as much support as we can to help.”
