VISIT FROM AM: The Gaer fruit and vegetable co-op were delighted to welcome Rosemary Butler to our Thursday session.
Mrs Butler timed it just right, arriving just as we had finished bagging up the goodies. She was very pleased with the quantity and quality of the produce, saying that it was very good value.
Mrs Butler chatted about various subjects of concern to the Gaer and seemed to enjoy the time that she spent with us. It was very pleasant to have an unofficial visit from our Assembly Member and we all enjoyed the moment.
ANZAC TEA DANCE: Jane Wheale, the community centre manager, sent me this piece of news.
Fancy a waltz, Matilda?
Join the Royal British Legion for an afternoon tea dance on Friday, April 27, 2007.
Put on your dancing shoes and join the Royal British Legion for a tea dance to commemorate Anzac day and help raise much-needed funds to support the UK's serving and ex-service community. Anzac Biscuits, that will be providing, of course, the vital ingredients of tea and biscuits, are sponsoring the afternoon tea dance, to be held at Gaer Community Centre on Friday, April 27, from 2pm until 4pm.
Bill and Pam Jones, from Two Left Feet, will be providing the music and will be on hand to help those who wish to learn the dances. All proceeds for the day will go to the British Legion.
Jane also asked me to say that those people who do not dance or have mobility problems are very welcome to come along and watch, while having tea and biscuits. The whole thing is for a very good cause and it deserves a good turnout.
The community centre will be producing a newsletter in the near future, so if anyone has a comment or a poem, please let me know. The newsletter will naturally be for the benefit of Gaer residents, therefore do help to make it a success by some contributions.
While talking to Jane, the lady who runs matters librarial in the centre asked me to comment on the small number of people who use the library service. It is easy to use, and if you are afraid to push buttons on what is a very simple computer, then help is always at hand, and if Jane is not available then the redoubtable Ian will step in. Do give it a try; apart from many other advantages, it will save you a bus trip to the city.
