RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information after two cats were found dumped in a cardboard box in Tredegar.
A member of the public found the cats abandoned in a box at Waundeg, Nantybwch, Tredegar at 9.30pm on Tuesday, October 6.
RSPCA inspector Kate Parker said: “The caller found one ginger tabby female cat who is around two years-old and one black female cat which is approximately four to five months-old. The cardboard box was taped up so they must have been extremely frightened and scared inside.”
The cats were taken to RSPCA’s Merthyr Tydfil Clinic for a health check and were scanned for a microchip but they did not have one, so their owners cant be identified.
“Both of the cats are healthy although they are underweight,” said inspector Parker.
“We’re now appealing for information to try and track down if they do have an owner out there who is looking for them.
“If we are unable to track down their owner, they will be made available for rehoming in the near future.
“This is the second incident like this I have dealt with within a couple of weeks. It is just so sad. We would just appeal to people that if they are struggling with their pets to seek advice and help from the many animals charities that are out there, instead of dumping them like rubbish, leaving these animals alone and to fend for themselves.”
Anyone who may have information about these cats should contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018. Calls are treated in confidence.
The RSPCA would like to remind people to get their pets microchipped to give their lost pets the chance of returning home. It is also important to register the chip with a national database and update your contact details if you move or change phone number.
