A NEWPORT rugby club junior team were treated to a £250 Christmas treat at the weekend thanks to a donation from a local business.
On Saturday, 20 boys from the St Julians High School Old Boys rugby club's under-12s team went to see a film at Friars Walk's new cinema and were afterwards taken for a burger at Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
The £250 had been raised through Newport company QRL, the former Quinn Radiators, who is linked to the club through David Waters. Mr Waters' works for QRL and his son, Zac Waters, plays for the team.
Mr Waters said yesterday: "It went fantastic, really really well. The kids had more than enough, they also had some Krispy Kreme donuts. They loved it all."
The day out, which was described as a "Christmas party to remember", is not something the team do every year.
Mr Waters, who is planning to train as a club coach in the new year, said: "I'm hoping it's something we can do next year as well.
"QRL are rebranding at the moment. It would be nice to get them on board."
The 20 boys, who are coached by Darren Lock, went to see the new Hunger Games film at Cineworld.
The St Julians HSOB rugby club welcome all new players from reception to school year 11 and train every Saturday from10.30am to 12pm at the Glebelands playing fields.
