TWO NEWPORT women have been arrested following the incident which left a rock band frontman needing 24 stitches.
A 40 year old woman from Newport has been arrested for assault (wounding with intent) and a 29 year old woman from Newport has been arrested for affray and criminal damage.
Both are currently on police bail.
Benji Webbe, of music group Skindred, was attacked while on his way home to Pill after a party on Friday night.
He said the assault happened outside the Crosskeys pub in the city centre.
The 48-year-old was left needing stitches on his face and throat.
Mr Webbe had been at a party at the Lounge, on Market Street, for the birthday of his friend, Newport nightclub owner Iftekhar Harris.
He performed a reggae cover of Life on Mars as a tribute to David Bowie and said he left the club with his girlfriend at around 12.20am.
He said he has had to postpone some work this week because of his injuries but holds no ill-will towards his attackers.
Heavy metal, alternative rock and reggae band Skindred was founded in 1998 in Newport and has since played at concerts around the world.
