SPECIAL BIRTHDAY: Gladys Tiley recently celebrated her 102nd birthday at the Craig-y-Trwyn Care Home in Brynawel, surrounded by friends and family.
Gladys was born in Rochdale, and met Fred, her husband to be, while she was on a holiday in Risca.
They were married in 1931 in St Mary's Church in Risca and had four children who are all living locally in the valley.
Gladys moved into the care home two years ago and together with her family she wished to thank Kath, the manager and all the staff for the wonderful life they have given her since she moved in.
SKY BLUES: The Sky blue Dance Troupe at Cwmfelinfach Community Centre on Tuesdays from 5pm to 7pm and Sundays from 11.30am to 2.30pm.
They perform at carnivals and hope to attend Risca and Blackwood Carnivals this year and also the Big Cheese. The troupe is open to girls and boys. For more details call Keeley on 01495 200362.
LADIES DARTS' AT THE HAVEN: The Haven on the Hill's two darts teams have finished their games in the Cwmfelinfach and District Ladies Darts League.
Haven B came third after a play off for second place. Haven A were not placed. Both hope to win trophies and look forward to the presentations in the Blue Club, Cefn Fforrest in July.
MOTHERS' UNION: A warm welcome will be given to all at St Theodore's Church on Tuesday, June 5, at 2pm in the Church Hall.
CRUSADERS AWARDS: The Crusaders' Senior Section Annual Awards Presentation is at the Forestier-Walker Conservative Club, Cwmfelinfach, on Saturday, June 9, at 7pm, buffet and disco follow.
SOCIAL EVENING: The Cwmfelinfach Residents social evening with McMillan Nurses went brilliantly.
People were able to ask questions and chat to nurses over tea, coffee or wine. The night raised £200 for McMillan Nurses.
CARE HOME: Residents of Craig-y-Trwyn Care Home enjoyed an afternoon with Rick James who sang and played guitar.
Activities manager Steve said staff and residents are now looking forward to a film show on a 7ft screen with chocolates and nibbles. The summer fete is in the grounds of Craig-y-Trwyn on June 30.
COUNCILLOR'S SURGERIES: Cllr Jan Jones will hold her surgeries on Saturday, June 2, starting at 12pm at the Progressive Club, 1pm at the Haven on the Hill, finishing at the Jubilee Club from 2pm.
PARTNERSHIP: Lower Sirhowy Valley Communities Partnership meets on Monday, June 4, at the Wattsville Pavilion at 6.30pm.
MEMORIAL STONE MOVES: The stone has been moved to its temporary site by the gates of Glan-y-nant Gardens to make way for essential drainage works.
The stone was moved as it sat on top of a place the council had to excavate. The removal marks the start of the works, which involve considerable excavations to access the underground drainage system.
Once the work is completed the gardens will be put back as before.
