A MONMOUTHSHIRE museum brought together school pupils for a bridge building workshop to mark the 50th anniversary of the Severn Bridge last week.
Chepstow Museum brought 90 Year 5 and 6 pupils from The Dell School and Pembroke Primary to an Institution of Civil Engineers bridge building workshop.
The pupils had the chance to construct a 15-metre-long cable-stayed bridge which was based on the design of the Second Severn Crossing, and were able to find out what life is like as a civil engineer.
The children also learned about site health and safety and donned protective gear as they worked in teams to assemble the plywood and aluminium sections to create the deck of the bridge, and to attach and adjust the cables.
After finishing the bridge, everyone was then able to walk across the bridge to test it out.
Chepstow Museum is looking to bring back the workshop during Engineering Week in November so that more schools can access the free events.
Anyone schools who are interested in getting involved future workshops, which will take place on November 8 and 9, contact Chepstow Museum on 01291 625981 to secure their places.
