A NEWPORT nursery has raised more than £500 for a Welsh children’s cancer charity inspired by one of the toddlers who is being treated for a brain tumour.
Two-year-old Ffion Thomas, who goes to Norfolk House Nursery, in Caerau Crescent, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour and is currently doing her second round of treatment.
Norfolk House Nursery deputy manager Gemma Brittan said: “As soon as we found out, we wanted to do something for her.
“It has been really successful, it’s brilliant.
“This morning, we had bouncy castles, face-painting and all that kind of thing.
“This afternoon, we are doing the raffle, with prizes including vouchers, wine, pampers and children’s activities. We’ll also have a cake sale.”
“Staff and children were wearing fancy dress, we’ve had a lovely day.”
In total, the nursery has raised more than £500 for LATCH, a Welsh children’s cancer charity.
One of the nursery’s toddlers, Elle O’Brian, aged four, and her mum Tracy have done a lot of fundraising separately and have raised more than £400 on her own.
“Ffion’s first round of treatment didn’t work very well and she’s on the second round of treatment now,” said Ms Brittan. “The mum said she’s getting well and she’s at home during the weekend.”
