WAY OUT EAST: The June meeting of Ponthir WI was held in the Village Hall, Ponthir.
The president, Mrs Jean Wiltshire, welcomed all members and Mrs Agnes Heath, secretary, dealt with the usual business.
The president introduced the guest speaker, Mr Michael Jarman, of Ponthir, who kindly gave a very interesting talk on his working life spent in the Middle East, and the changes he has seen during the time spent there, and now when he revisits the area.
The raffle was won by Mrs Marilyn Sandbroke. Members were reminded of the Mystery Outing, which will take place on the first Monday in August.
Names were also taken for the computer classes on Monday, June 11.
Nancy Davies was awarded top marks for the competition Best Travel Tip', which was judged by Mr Jarman.
Nancy's winning tip was to make sure you put a brightly coloured strap around your suitcase when travelling, so where ever you are, be it bus station or airport, you can in-stantly pick out your case while others struggle to find theirs when they are coming around on the carousel or in a pile by the side of the bus.
Mr Jarman also presented the Rose Bowl to Mrs Jean Wiltshire for gaining most marks for the monthly competition during the year.
Tea and light refreshments were served by Mrs Mary Laxton, Mrs Jacqui Green and Mrs Virginia Dalgeliesh. New members are always welcomed. Please come along on the first Monday of each month to the Village Hall, Ponthir.
