A CAERLEON man and his friend who cycled from Cheltenham to Berlin have raised nearly £5,000 for a cancer support charity, The 100 project.
The pair rode across five countries over eight days, covering a distance of around 1,400km.
The pair set off on Monday, August 29 and their first day of cycling took them to London, passing through Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
Hywel Jenkins,45, said: "Cycling in London isn't easy.
"Even when you're on cycle paths through the parks you're constantly on the look out for inattentive motorists and distracted pedestrians."
On the second day, they made their way to Frogholt, where they loaded their bikes onto the car and headed for Calais.
They passed through France, Belgium, and the Netherlands before reaching their destination, Berlin.
"Cycling in Belgium and the Netherlands is easy," said Mr Jenkins. "Excellent surfaces, beautiful scenery, and, most importantly, no hills to look forward to.
"However, our days in Germany were the hardest.
"On the whole our route took us away from cycle lanes so we were often amongst general road traffic. Germany's a pretty hilly country, too."
