SEE how the new Bridge Street bridge in Newport was lifted into place with this video.
Timelapse footage captured the assembly of a 600 tonne crawler crane which was used to lift and install the new bridge deck in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Around 30 onlookers gathered by the Bridge Street construction site — located at Newport Station Car Park — as work began at 1.30am to position the huge metal structure.
The crane lifted the 560 tonne bridge into position and work finished at around 4am.
The works are part of Network Rail's drive to electrify the South Wales mainline with the Bridge Street project estimated to be finished by the end of this year.
