A TORFAEN mum has paid tribute to a hospital that helped treat her daughter's heart condition, after raising £250 in a family fun walk.

Danielle George, of Pontypool, joined hundreds of families on Sunday, September 18, at the Noah's Ark Charity's family fun walk, taking part with a 17-strong team.

A record-breaking 280 mums, dads and children also took on the challenge on the day, walking 3k and 10k routes around the Cardiff Bay Barrage.

Ms George's three-year-old daughter, Olivia, was previously admitted to hospital at seven days old after being diagnosed with Meningitis Enterovirus, which caused the heart condition Myocarditi.

After receiving care in Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny and Great Ormond Street Hospital, she was sent to the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital and was well enough to go home at eight-weeks-old.

Olivia’s mum describes the charity walk for Noah's Ark as a way to “all get together for a great cause and celebrate Olivia at the same time”.

“We took part in the walk as a family last year and really enjoyed it so we managed to rope in even more people this year and did it as a team of 17,” she said.

“We were all very impressed again this time by how it was organised and the fitness regime at the start.

“It’s basically a brilliant event with a friendly atmosphere and we’re planning on doing it for many years to come.”

Money raised from the event will be used by the charity to support the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales in providing care to children and their families.

It delivers specialist care to 73,000 children from across Wales each year, including 24,742 from the area covered by Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board.

To date, the charity has raised over £20million for the hospital, with an 80p share of every £1 going directly to the hospital.
