JOHN Frost School teaching staff team who cycled from London to Paris have been praised after officially handing over the single biggest school donation ever to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Debbie Jones, regional fundraising manager for Teenage Cancer Trust in South Wales, said after they passed on £17,000: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to the staff and students of John Frost School for their incredible support and for raising such an outstanding amount of money.

"We know that the local community and businesses in the area have also been integral in helping them reach this figure.

"The school have fundraised tirelessly and have gone above and beyond to raise the much needed funds to support local young people with cancer.

"Currently for every young person we reach there’s another we can’t.

"The money raised by John Frost will help go towards our goal of reaching every young person with cancer.”

John Frost High School head teacher and cancer survivor Jon Wilson was joined by five members of his teaching staff on the 261-mile ride.

They cycled up to 70 miles a day, and originally only aimed to raise £10,000 for the charity.

But the team had raised £16,000 before even setting off on their journey.

“It feels great to be able to have raised so much money for them," said Mr Wilson, who was treated for Lymphoma around nine years ago and called the Teenage Cancer Trust a charity close to his heart.

“The work that Teenage Cancer Trust is fantastic and they are doing a relaunch later this year, which I’ll be attending."

The staff members to make the trip with him were Andrew Laity, James Rees, Rob Gregory, Richard Gauregui and David Perkins.
