AT NEWPORT Live, we are passionate about inspiring people to be happier and healthier; supporting the people of Newport to enjoy active and cultural leisure opportunities is what makes us tick!
We run several venues in Newport; The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, Active Living Centre in Bettws, Newport Centre and Newport International Sports Village (NISV), which comprises The Regional Pool and Tennis Centre, Newport Stadium and Wales National Velodrome.
As a registered charitable trust and social enterprise, we reinvest any profits we make into constantly improving our facilities and services for the local community.
We employ local people, and work with many local groups and organisations that may not traditionally have access to sport, leisure and the arts.
We’re approaching a fantastic autumn season at The Riverfront, with a wide variety of productions and activities on offer.
Our drama passes offer discounts when purchasing multiple tickets, and with productions including Dalloway (adapted from Virginia Woolf’s celebrated novel) and The Revlon Girl (following the true story of bereaved mothers in Aberfan), plus Macbeth, apocalyptic dark humour and gothic horror, you’re spoilt for choice.
If laughter and comedy is more up your street, you’re in luck.
Russell Kane, Sam Simmons, Sofie Hagen, Ahir Shan, Griff Rhys Jones and Mitch Benn are all tickling The Riverfront’s funny bone this season, plus our monthly comedy club, kindly sponsored by Admiral, is back with a bang.
We have a great line up of music, dance and circus too; The Three Degrees, Andy Fairweather Low and The Low Riders, and The Bowie Experience are just some of the musical notes on offer, plus there are partnerships between RSPB Cymru and the Arts Council, brought to life by the Sinfonia Cymru orchestra and BBC Horizons starlet, Kizzy Crawford.
The music continues over the road at Newport Centre, with Bullet For My Valentine and Placebo both performing later in the year.
Newport Centre is also home to a recently refurbished gym, a sports hall and swimming pools, as is Active Living Centre. NISV’s Pool and Tennis Centre has amazing sport and fitness facilities, and the Velodrome is also home to a large gym and specialist weights area. Local people of all abilities can access our facilities through our memberships, which in turn help us to keep developing what we do!
Of course we can’t talk about backing Newport without mentioning what a fantastic summer we had at the Velodrome. Team GB and Paralympics GB both held their holding camps with us before jetting off to Rio, which resulted in a hugely successful medals haul! People from across the country came to watch the training sessions, which offered an amazing insight into what makes Olympic and Paralympic champions.
What’s more, we’re now welcoming even more people of all ages who are trying track cycling, having been inspired by the Rio athletes.
We’re so proud of what we offer to Newport, and we’re even prouder of the City our venues call home. To find out more, visit newportlive.co.uk
