JOHN Timpson, the chairman of the high street cobblers chain is to attend Chepstow Racecourse's Jumps Festival to talk about his new book.

A public interview and signing session for his new book ‘Under Orders, The Diary of a Racehorse Owner’s Husband’ will take place on Saturday (October 8).

Racegoers will also be able to hear Mr Timpson's story and buy copies of his book alongside seven races on the day.

The Totepool October Jumps Festival takes place on both Saturday and Sunday. The meeting represents the start of the winter jumping programme in the UK and there is £300,000 of prize money on offer over the two days.

Mr Timpson’s interview will take place in the Parade Ring after the first race and a book signing session will immediately follow that.

Sales of the book online and at Chepstow Racecourse will raise money for the Injured Jockeys Fund.

The feature race on day one of the festival is the grade three, £50,000 Totepool Silver Trophy. Previous winners include Bradbury Star, Don’t Push It and Court Minstrel who produced a 40-1 surprise last year.

Along with the equine stars on show, Chepstow will host the annual Jump Legends Race on Saturday, with former top riders Jim Culloty, Graham Bradley, Conor O’Dwyer, Jimmy Frost and Jimmy Duggan (flying in from the USA for the race), taking part amongst others.

On Sunday, former Champion Chaser and two time Chepstow winner Sire de Grugy is in line to make his seasonal debut whilst the sponsor of the £30,000 Power Panel Electrical Systems Veterans’ Chase, David Fox, plans to run his 2015 Grand National runner up, Saint Are, trained by Tom George.

In addition to the racing, there will be plenty of entertainment for racegoers, including live music, a countryside market, lurcher racing, falconry and gun dog displays along with the chance to meet a racehorse up close and learn more about their training and welfare.
