A FAST-growing fad that sees members of the public locked in a room for an hour, tasked with solving puzzles to escape is coming to Newport city centre.
Details about the new Escape Room's location, and the theme of their first room, are currently secret, but the company behind it says it is hoping to launch this winter.
It will also showcase a different side to a well-known Newport landmark, it has been revealed.
Escape Rooms are a growing destination for live-action entertainment that blend elements of theatre, role play, cinema and interactive storytelling with puzzle solving.
Escape Room challengers work in teams of two to six people in a fight against the clock to solve the room and escape before time runs out.
Elinor Daniel, 31, from Malpas, has set up Newport Escape Room with her brother, David, 35, also from Malpas.
She said: "Escape rooms across the UK have received the highest visitor reviews of any type of attraction and for a time were the number one rated attraction.
"For challengers in Newport, the nearest Escape Rooms currently available are in Cardiff or Bristol so we decided to launch our own experience within the city centre.
“So often with Escape Rooms, challengers are locked into the space and essentially left to their own devices to work out what they have to do to get out.
"There’s nothing wrong with that, but we intend to go further.
"Using interactive props, audio and visual media and a flair for theatrics and set design, our aim is for our visitors to feel as if they are part of an authentic experience that doesn’t necessarily end when the clock counts down to zero.
"They will come to question where the story begins and where it ends.”
An initial three-month booking period will be announced soon. For the latest news and information, visit escaperoomsnewport.co.uk
