STOW Park Lawn Tennis Club launched its newly-refurbished tennis courts over the weekend after a three-year fundraising campaign.

Stow Park LTC, established in 1867, is one of the oldest tennis club in Wales, and now has six new all-weather resistant, floodlit courts.

The tennis court's big launch day was Saturday, with face-painting, brass bands, the mayor and mayoress in attendance as well as tennis tournaments.

All six new courts were in action throughout the day, kicking off with junior tournaments, and culminating in an adult team tennis tournament, where four teams of twelve battled it out for the cup.

Food was provided by local firm Pretentious Burger Kitchen.

The festivities continued into the evening, with singer Dave McLean performing a range of classic Swing numbers entertaining members into the early hours.

Katey Calvert, Stow Park LTC Social Secretary, said: "There have been so many people who have helped us over the years to get here, and today was a celebration for these people, and for everyone to enjoy our new courts.

"The day was supported by over 300 of our members and friends and family, keen to see the new courts in action and enjoy a burger.

"The court resurfacing couldn't have been completed without their support, through donations, fundraising and supporting events.

"The club are very grateful for everyone's support over the years and especially throughout the works this summer."

Ms Calvert said that the club are very proud of their heritage, but are also looking to the future.

The club welcomes new members, and have a tennis programme for all levels and abilities. For more information about the club or to join, please visit clubspark.lta.org.uk/StowParkLTC or their Facebook page facebook.com/StowParkLawnTennisClub
