LAST week we featured a picture of Clytha Square, Newport from 1906.
THIS photo is of the right hand side of Clytha Square looking from Cardiff Road.
My old GP surgery used to be there, and the building behind the wall on the right of the photo is now a block of flats.
C Welch, Newport
This picture comes from Newport (Gwent) in Old Picture Postcards Volume Two by David Jones.
The word ‘Clytha’ is believed either to have derived from the Welsh 'Cleidda' while another theory states that the area was named after a giant called Cilda. According to legend the giant dwelt in the parish of Betws, Newydd.
