A NEW dessert house opened its doors in Newport this week – reporter Estel Farell-Roig went along to try some of their indulgent desserts.

Kaspa's, in 137 Commercial Street, offers a range of hot and cold desserts under roof.

From sundaes to waffles and from crepes to cakes, the shop has all sorts of desserts.

1) Brownie waffle with crushed Oreo base and whipped cream (£7.95)

With more than fifteen types of waffles on offer, I chose to try this one after one of the staff recommended it to me. This decadent waffle with one of Kaspa’s unique waffle base is ideal for those with a sweet tooth.

It is topped with fudge brownie pieces and drizzled with warm Belgian chocolate sauce. It is finished off with pouring cream and it comes with a choice of fresh vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. This is a super-filling dessert so it could easily be shared between two people.

2) Hazelnut Choc Deluxe Sundae with Ferrero Rocher (£6.95)

This delicious-looking sundae is one of the most popular choices in Kaspa’s – both because of its presentation and its taste. It consists of an irresistible hazelnut chocolate ice cream combined with fresh vanilla ice cream.

It is topped with milk chocolate flakes, several Ferrero Rocher chocolates and luxurious chocolate-hazelnut sauce. This sundae is the perfect choice for those of us who think there is not such a thing as too much chocolate.

3) Maple temptation crepe (£4.95)

All of the crepes served at Kaspa’s are freshly baked. This crepe is a twist to a very classic dessert, served with fresh strawberry slices, and drizzled with maple syrup.

For those who like strawberries in their crepes, another option is the strawberry indulge crepe (£5.50), which is served with fresh strawberry slices, drizzled with chocolate syrup and sprinkled with milk chocolate flakes.

4) Chocolate Indulgence Pudding (£4.50)

Kaspa’s offers a wide range of cakes and puddings. The chocolate indulge pudding consists of a soft, chocolate sponge drenched in a hot chocolate sauce.

The Choco Lovi N’ Spoon cake (£4.50) is another irresistibly delicious chocolate dessert – it consists of layers of dark, moist chocolate cake.

A suggestion for those who prefer non-chocolate based desserts is the honey and cinnamon pudding. This indulgent dessert is a soft honey and cinnamon sponge topped with rich Butterscotch sauce (£4.50).

5) Peanut butter choco waffle (£6.50)

Another must try at Kaspa’s is their peanut butter and chocolate waffle. The fresh waffle is spread with warm peanut butter, served with fresh banana slices and drizzled with lavish chocolate-hazelnut sauce.

Banana, chocolate and peanut butter is quite an intense combination of flavours. However, once you have tried, you can’t go back and you will keep coming back for more.

Their strawberry shortcake waffle (£5.95) is another delicious combination. The fresh waffle is served with fresh strawberry slices, crushed digestives and drizzled with white chocolate sauce.

6) Tropical paradise sundae (£6.95)

This refreshing sundae has banana, coconut and mango ice cream scoops as well as kiwi, strawberry and pineapple fruit pieces.

It is topped with whipped cream and an appetising combination of kiwi and peach syrups. This fruity pudding is a good alternative for those who prefer something lighter than a chocolate-based dessert. It is so refreshing it will make you feel like you are in Spain in a gorgeous, sunny day.

They also offer a dairy-free fruit sorbet, which consists of a mouth-watering combination of mango, passion fruit and raspberry sorbet scoops. It is topped off with fresh kiwi, strawberry and banana fruit pieces, drizzled with exquisite raspberry sauce.

7) Bubble shakes and bubble slushes (regular £3.95, super £4.50)

First, you need to choose your bubble drink. For the bubble shakes, options include pina colada, taro, coconut, watermelon and strawberry. For the bubble slushes, they include mango with passion fruit, barry lemonade, raspberry and blackcurrant and mojito.

Then you need to choose your toppings, with the one being included in the price. These can be juice balls – lychee, blueberry and mango, for example – or jelly bits – including strawberry, green apple and mango.

For those looking for something more traditional, Kaspa’s also offers smoothies (£3.95). These include strawberry kiss – strawberry and more strawberries -, snowberry – blueberries, raspberries, cherries, strawberry and yogurt – and mango dream – mango and pear.

8) Banoffee cookie dough (£5.50)

You can never go wrong with hot cookie dough and, at Kaspa's, they offer lots of different flavours. These include banoffee, white chocolate, fudge brownie and Smartie’s.

They are all served with fresh vanilla ice cream, whipped cream or custard.
