A NEW head teacher will take the reins at John Frost School this September.
Mark Tucker, who lives in Newport, has been deputy head at the school for more than 20 years. He will replace current head teacher Jon Wilson, who is retiring after spending 14 years in the position.
Sue O’Brian, chair of the school's governing body, said: “We had a very strong line-up of candidates but Mark stood out and we were delighted that we were able to promote from within the school.
“He will be a fantastic head who will strive to make sure each and every pupil achieves their potential, give full support to his staff and bring together the whole school community.”
Formerly Duffryn High School, the governors decided to change the name and it became The John Frost School in September 2016.
Improvement works, including an extension, are currently being carried out at the school.
