HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised towards a disabled child’s operation fund thanks to the efforts of a Torfaen motorbike club.
Earlier this year, Jessica Hope, of Garndiffaith, launched the Lincoln’s Legs appeal to help raise £100,000 for her four-year-old son, Lincoln, who has cerebral palsy.
Lincoln’s proposed operation, spinal dorsal rhizotomy, aims to remove spasticity and would be followed by years of physiotherapy to improve muscle strength.
Without it, he would be likely to spend his life in a wheelchair.
So far, the appeal has raised around £4,000 with several businesses and organisations from Torfaen getting involved and showing their support to the Hope family.
Earlier this month, the Rockers Vs Mods Scooter Show, held by Celtic Wolves Motorbike Club, raised over £600 for the appeal with Lincoln attending the event to meet club members and say thank you.
Secretary of the Celtic Wolves Motorbike Club, John Williams, said he heard about Lincoln’s Legs through one of the club’s members and is happy to support the appeal.
“If Jess needs us for anything, she can just give us a call,” he said.
Pontypool music venue, The Dragonffli, will also host a music event for the appeal between 6pm to 1.30am this Friday.
Venue owner and Pontypool Community Council chairman, Nick Byrne, said: “Cerebral Palsy is a horrible condition and Lincoln needs our help for his fight against this”.
Mrs Hope added:“For these people and the community here to help us to change our son’s life for the future is really humbling.”
So far, the appeal has received the backing of comic Frankie Boyle, who will perform at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, on September 9, alongside comedian Francesca Martinez.
All ticket sales will be donated to the Lincoln’s Legs appeal.
The mum is also hosting a ladies pamper evening on June 21, at Pontypool United and a mini music festival at the Rising Sun Inn at Abersychan on Saturday, July 1.
