James Tovey, of Tovey Bros funeral directors in Cardiff Road, Newport, shares his advice to families who have lost a loved one.
"Tovey Bros has served South Wales for six generations, witnessing significant changes to funeral services, especially in recent years.
The variety and extent of services requested has increased dramatically and understandably funeral director and third parties costs have also risen steadily.
Families should be able to have services that meet their needs and are affordable, so researching what is available is important, both service quality and price.
For example, are the funeral directors long established, family owned and trade association members?
Are staff trained and experienced, working in quality premises and vehicles? Do they offer bereavement support?
A recommendation is often the most helpful indicator, so speak to friends or neighbours.
Alternatively, seek the advice of trusted professionals, such as clergy, doctors or nursing staff.
Of course, a bereaved person often doesn’t feel like doing this research.
It is usually easier done prior to the bereavement, which is why many people arrange funeral plans.
These offer peace of mind that everything is taken care of.
The burden of future decision making is lifted and the price of future funeral director costs is guaranteed.
Funeral directors have the local knowledge to provide the best advice, tailoring plans to your needs.
We, as local family owned funeral directors, offer families a quality service, providing best value for money for generations to come.’"
