LAST week we featured a picture of Cardiff Road, Newport, looking towards Ebenezer Terrace c1920.
TODAYS now picture shows the magnificent Gilligans Island or its proper name Mariners Walk.
Over the centuries there has been loads of activity around here, the meeting of Commercial Road and Street.
Radically changed mainly after the building of George Street Bridge, all around is a cornucopia of history.
Dominated by the new Police Station, there are not many who can recall the Salutation pub there, renowned for seamen and brawls. The fitting monument there is for the Merchant Navy which lost many Newport men in Second World War.

Comments from the Argus website: Cardiff Road left side heading towards lower Commercial Street.
The Nurd Cardiff Road near Gilligan's Island with Ebenezer Terrace in the distance.
