PONTHIR WI: The July meeting of Ponthir WI was held in the village hall, Ponthir, when Mrs Jean Wiltshire, president, welcomed the members and also welcomed Mrs Amanda Morgan, who had come along as a visitor.
Members remembered Mrs Janet Harvey as a faithful and most valued member who will be greatly missed. She had been a member for many years and held the office of president, secretary and was our Press correspondent for a long time.
Mrs Agnes Heath, secretary, dealt with the necessary business, reading the minutes and county letter. Members were thanked for the support given at the school fete in June and were congratulated on the lovely cakes, etc, given for the cake stall.
Members were reminded about the mystery outing in August and the tickets were available for the harvest supper in September.
Mrs Margaret Jones, who was our delegate at the AC meeting held in April, gave a full and interesting report of that meeting. She was thanked by the president.
Mrs Jean Wiltshire introduced the speaker, who was in the area visiting her sister.
Mrs Iris Evans, who is a retired nurse and also a WI member from Newcastle Emlyn gave a most interesting and fascinating talk about her work and experiences as a nurse with a mining community.
Mrs Helena Thomas expressed thanks on behalf of our Institute to Mrs Evans, and invited her back.
Mrs Evans was presented with a pot plant. She awarded Mrs Doreen Thomas for her First Aid Tip. Helena won the raffle, and tea and biscuits were served by Mrs Irene Rees and Mrs Nita Thomas.
