A BLAENAVON-BASED running club which disbanded in the early 2000s has reformed following a surge in interest and new athletes.
Blaenafon Joggers was founded in 1985 but folded due to a decline in members and losing its base at the Blaenavon Recreation Centre in 2007.
The club was revived by new resident Jon Tibke from Liverpool – an ex-Lancaster and Morecambe Athletic Club member, and former member Jackie Huybs.
“Jon met another former Jogger, Stacey Morgan, on a parkrun and found our Facebook page – which was mostly a nostalgia thing,” said Mrs Huybs.
“He insisted that the club could be reformed, and with the enthusiasm of a number of Blaenavon ifyougoigo group members, we were able to get it off the ground.”
The inaugural training session saw 27 people turn up, and sessions take place on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
Anyone interested should visit the Facebook page ‘Blaenafon Joggers Revival’ or contact Mr Tibke on jontibke@aol.co.uk or Mrs Huybs on jackiehuybs@btinternet.com.
