Trains through Newport delayed and overcrowded ahead of Wales v South Africa rugby match

Arriva Trains Wales services have confirmed that some of its services from Newport will be delayed throughout the day as it copes with the match-day rush.

Customers have been seen forming queues leading out of the station waiting to purchase tickets from the station.

In comparison, there is minimal traffic on the M4 around Newport.

The scenes come hours before the autumn international is set to kick off at 2.30pm at the Prinicipality Stadium.

Some disgruntled commuters have taken to Twitter to voice their displeasure at the packed carriages this morning.

Great Western Railway services have also been disrupted, with Twitter user Mark Medd describing the packed carriages as being similar to "herds of cattle".

Jessica Pearson said the service at Newport station was an "absolute nightmare" after she was unable to get on three trains,

She eventually got into Cardiff at around noon, having arrived at the station at 10.20am.

A tweet by Arriva Trains Wales reads: "Unfortunately all our available trains are in use today and we don't have any spare carriages to add.

"Services are still running although they will be delayed."
