NEW health and care centres for east Newport and Tredegar have been confirmed as part of a Welsh Government plan to deliver 19 such schemes across Wales by 2021.
The Argus revealed last month that Aneurin Bevan University Health Board had received funding approval for the two centres, subject to business cases being submitted and agreed by the Welsh Government,
And today, health secretary Vaughan Gething has included both in a list of 19 such centres across Wales that he said should be delivered by 2021.
Funding of up to £68 million has been identified for the programme, described as the biggest targeted investment by the Welsh Government in primary and community care infrastructure.
The centres for east Newport and Tredegar will be designed to provide a broad range of services and clinics, in addition to those provided by GPs.
“People in the 21st Century expect to be treated in modern, advanced health care centres that deliver a wide range of services all under one roof,” said Mr Gething.
“We agree, and by targeting investment in this way it is hoped that opportunities for delivering service change can be delivered upon.”
