A BAKER is rising above the competition by opening her first cake shop tomorrow.
Beth Sims, 26, from Newport has only been baking for four years and taught herself how to bake.
She said: "I always love cooking and I started creating cakes four years ago for family and friends.
"I get ideas and inspiration online but with a cake you can be creative and make it up. These are not traditional cakes, they are more modern and come in a range of designs."
Miss Sims said she always wanted to be her own boss, and until recently had been working from home as well as working in retail.
She said: "I woked in EE as a retail assistant in Newport, and left the job in March 2017.
"It has been crazy. I didn't realise the demand for cakes, people are always messaging me.
"I supply cakes to local coffee shops including The Vanilla Pod Coffee Bar in Duffryn, Brew Coffee House in Risca and Cabin Cwtch in Langstone. I get great feedback.
"People tend to want cakes last minute so they can now come into the shop and get one."
Beth's Bakes is located on Church Road, Newport and will open for the first time on Saturday at 10am.
"I can't wait for Saturday," she said.
"I will have cakes and brownies for sale, tasters, and free goodie bags for the first 20 customers. There will also be a cake giveaway."
