TWO councillors from Torfaen have spoken of their injuries following a car crash on Saturday.
Peter Jones, councillor for Two Locks and Henllys, and his wife Fay Jones, councillor for St Dials, were involved in the two-vehicle incident at about 4pm on Hollybush Way, Cwmbran.
Mr and Mrs Jones were taken to hospital where they were kept under observation.
Mr Jones said: “My wife and I were going shopping.
“It all happened in an instant. My car spun about three or four times. My wife and I were in great shock. I had a slight head injury. I had a headache, and shoulder and neck injuries.
“I had an X-ray on my shoulder and they said I had muscular damage, thankfully not a fracture.
“My wife had pains in her chest and was covered in cuts and bruises.
“Someone at the scene said we were lucky to be alive. Someone else said they don’t know how we walked out of the car.
“The car was a mess. The pillars had gone, the axles had gone.
“The most important thing is that my wife and I are alive.
“We have both been told to relax and rest.”
Both Mr and Mrs Jones have now been released from hospital and are recovering at home.
As well as being a councillor, Mr Jones works part time as a policy officer for Guide Dogs Cymru, and is a retired senior civil servant.
Mrs Jones previously worked for 35 years in children’s services.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “Officers were called to a road traffic collision between a BMW and a Suzuki Vitara on Hollybush Way, Cwmbran on Saturday September 22 at around 4pm.
“A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle with an alcohol level above the legal limit. He has been released under investigation.
“If anyone has information in relation to this incident, please call 101 quoting Log 323 22/9/18.”
