A MOTHER who bit off a “chunk” of a woman’s ear in a “terrifying” unprovoked attack and continued to assault her while she was in her bra and knickers was jailed.
Chelsea Hiscox needed plastic surgery following her ordeal when Shannon Evans launched herself at her after the defendant invited her back to her home.
Prosecutor Richard Ace told Cardiff Crown Court how the two had earlier been chatting before she became annoyed when she got up to leave.
She started to bite her victim all over her body and left ear and punched her to the face and eyes after she had been drinking.
The “sustained” assault even continued in the street when Evans, by this stage in her bra and knickers, ran after Miss Hiscox who had managed to escape the initial attack and flee her home.
She had also tried to spray bleach at her victim from a bottle.
Mr Ace said the violence only stopped after the intervention of two members of the public who came to her aid, father and son Anthony and Neil Sargent, who she also went on to attack.
Judge Michael Fitton QC commended them for their “bravery” after they held her until the police arrived on April 20.
Evans attacked the complainant after asking her to borrow a cigarette lighter following Miss Hiscox’s visit to her father-in-law.
The court heard how the victim still needs treatment for her ear at Swansea’s Morriston Hospital with Mr Ace telling the court: “It is healing well but it is still scarred.”
Reading out her victim impact statement, he said that she still has “flashbacks”, has lost her confidence, has scars all over her body and arms and “covers up when she goes out”.
The defendant pleaded guilty to wounding Miss Hiscox and common assault against the father and son.
Evans, who appeared in court via video link from Eastwood Park Prison, has previous convictions for battery in 2015 and common assault last year.
Harry Baker, mitigating, said his client had pleaded guilty at the first hearing and had taken a “tablet” on the day of the offence.
He added: “She has personal problems and has a number of difficulties involving her children.
“She has had a difficult start in life.”
Judge Michael Fitton QC said the Evans: “You bit off part of her ear when you were drunk in your own home and you punched her to the face and eyes in a terrifying attack.”
Evans, 22, of Heol Dewi, Hengoed, was jailed for a total of two years and Judge Fitton made no order for compensation for Miss Hiscox because the defendant did not have the means to pay it.
