Newport's first 'apart-hotel' venture is set to be opened in the city centre in November by four brothers who have visions of the city evolving in the same way that Salford Quays in the north of England has.

Quay Apartments will be based on the top two floors of Clarence House, in Clarence Place.

One of the brothers behind the scheme Ali Tariq said: "We are four brothers who have set up a four locations, Salford Quays, Leeds, Manchester and now Newport and planning to open more through out UK.

"Newport has a lot to offer already, but also much a lot more to develop and as we saw the rise of Salford Quays and Manchester, we hope to see the same for Newport.

"The name Quay Apartments came from the first ever site, Salford Quays, which was a lot like Newport but on a small scale. Like we saw an opportunity in Salford Quays, we also see a bigger opportunity in Newport.

"Newport is a completely new city to us and not knowing about the city as much we were hesitant to open an aparthotel here.

"However after much research and speaking with the locals, and having meetings with Newport City Council, we realised they have big plans to regenerate the city and we wanted to be apart of that."

Mr Tariq said they chose Clarence House as the site for the apart-hotel as it was on the banks of the River Usk and would fit perfectly with their Quay Apartments brand.

The apartments will be on the top two floors, which have great views of the city, the ports, the bridges and the river.

Mr Tariq said: "There will be 14 apartments in all. They will include studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. They will come with wifi, a fully-fitted kitchenette, king, double or twin beds, a 43in flat screen 4D wall-mounted TV, a dining area and relaxing sofas.

"The aim is to make you feel at home away from home."

Newport will be the fourth location for Quay Apartments.

Mr Tariq said: "We have an awesome team which look after the apartments, from housekeeping to managers, and we see everyone as our equal. As we are a family ran business, we see our staff and guests in the same way. The slogan for the company is 'The Quay to hospitality'.”

The apart-hotel is set to open for business on November 1.
