FORMER Rodney Parade favourite and All Blacks scrum half Ofisa Junior Tonu'u, pictured, believes Wales will have too much forward firepower for Fiji in their vital World Cup pool clash on Saturday.
Wales have to beat the exuberant Pacific Islanders on Saturday to qualify for a quarter-final against South Africa in Marseille on Sunday, October 7.
But with some pundits predicting a close match, Tonu'u thinks Wales will win with something to spare thanks to their superior set piece and fitness which he thinks will stifle Fijian flair.
Tonu'u, who won four caps for New Zealand, six caps for Samoa and played 45 times for Newport between 2001-2003, was back in Wales last week with a number of ex-All Blacks stars on a whistle-stop charity tour organised by Blaina's Phil Kingsley-Jones, Jonah Lomu's former manager.
Tonu'u predicted Wales would hammer Japan at the Millennium Stadium last week and believes they should now have few problems reaching a big showdown with the mighty Boks, who have topped their group.
He said: "Wales will be too strong although Fiji do have that bit of brilliance. But Wales will have the fitness to eliminate Fijian flair, Wales have more structure and power in the tight five and a little more cohesion.
"Fiji will be forced to feed off scraps and any miss-kicks from Stephen Jones and young James Hook, so they have to be very accurate and not give them any loose ball because you know exactly what they will do with it."
Sevens kings Fiji have never beaten Wales but nearly caused a major upset at the Millennium Stadium in November 2005 when they were desperately unlucky to lose to the then Grand Slam holders 11-10 in a thrilling match.
Welsh blushes were only spared when Cardiff Blues outside half Nicky Robinson dropped a goal to put them ahead with just four minutes to go.
But not even the most one-eyed of Welsh fans could have begrudged them victory that night.
Fiji fancy their chances and are targeting Saturday's game after resting their top players last weekend when they faced Australia, the Wallabies winning easily 55-12 against their second string.
Their former Pontypridd and Saracens fly half Nicky Little has already caused a stir by claiming Welsh players don't possess the right skills.
