Is Newport council anti-pedestrian?
This could be an easy conclusion to make as it appears they have altered crossings over the past year.
Pedestrian crossings in the city centre now have longer waiting times and you also need to be quicker to cross.
Whilst this may help the flow of traffic, it is a blinkered attitude.
Over 29% of all car journeys are less than 2 miles, so there is scope to encourage more people to walk or cycle.
Of course, not everyone would do so but you only have to look at school holidays where a fraction of these short-distance car trips are removed and see the difference it makes.
So come on Newport Council, change your mind-set.
