WALES 34 FIJI 38
THE World Cup is over for Wales after they were beaten by Fiji in a thrilling game in Nantes.
Wales scored five tries but it was an effort from Graham Dewes that earned the Fijians a last eight clash with South Africa.
Fiji had led 25-10 at the break but Wales roared back and it seemed they would seal their quarter-final spot when Shane Williams, Gareth Thomas and Mark Jones crossed early in the second half.
Fiji edged back in front but a Martyn Williams interception try looked like it would be the winner on 73 minutes, Wales having a three point lead.
But amazingly the underdogs found another try to put massive pressure on coach Gareth Jenkins, who had asked to be judged on his World Cup campaign.
Wales 34 (10) Tries: Popham, S Williams, G Thomas, M Jones, M Williams Cons: Hook, S Jones (2) Pens: S Jones
Fiji 38 (25) Tries: Qera, Delasau, Leawere, Dewes Cons: Little (3) Pens: Little (4)
