THE Malpas Road and Brynglas Tunnels relief road scheme was completed in 1995 with the aim of ending traffic chaos at Malpas Road and easing congestion at the Brynglas Tunnels.
At a cost of £38m, the huge road scheme sliced through land at the Harlequin roundabout to Cwmbran Drive with the construction of bridges and link roads in the city.
