A FORMER college site in Ebbw Vale could be transformed into 277 homes under plans submitted to Blaenau Gwent council.
Persimmon Homes is behind the proposed development on land between College Road and Waun y Pound Road, which used to be home to Ebbw Vale Comprehensive and Coleg Gwent's Ebbw Vale college.
The developer says the proposals would bring 93 permanent direct jobs and 141 full-time equivalent indirect jobs.
A range of two, three and four-bedroom homes would be included in the development.
A mixture of detached, semi-detached, terraced homes are also included in the proposals, which would reflect the height of other nearby developments.
Green infrastructure also forms an important part of the plans, with proposals for public open space, landscape planting and trees being retained.
"The retention of existing trees together with the ecological mitigation zone will ensure that the proposal is one that is characterised by green corridors and areas of open space that safeguard sensitive habitats and provide an attractive environment for future residents," a design and access statement says.
The former school and college buildings have now been demolished.
A capital investment of £28,287,240 over three years would also be made for the construction of the development, according to the plans.
A design and access statement says the economic impact of the development could be significant.
It says: "The significant economic, environmental and social benefits that the proposal will deliver will contribute to the vitality and prosperity of the locality and in doing so help deliver a lasting legacy for the people of Ebbw Vale and the borough as a whole."
The plans can be viewed at the civic centre in Ebbw Vale during opening hours.
