THE son of a 68-year-old Alzheimer’s sufferer involved in a collision in Newport this week has spoken of his father’s ordeal.
He suffered serious injuries to his lower left leg and required treatment from the emergency services at the scene.

Mr Ambridge’s son Adam said: “The paramedics had to plate his ankle back into place at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
“Luckily a family friend happened to be passing and stopped to help him.”

Mr Ambridge senior was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport where he received further treatment to his ankle.
“The doctor treating him said that it was among the nastiest fractures he had ever seen,” said Mr Ambridge junior.
“He’s now facing six weeks in hospital and a six-month recovery period.
“Dad’s a mess. He was in so much pain on Tuesday night, seeing him in that much pain wasn’t nice. I couldn’t do anything for him, I felt so helpless.”

The ordeal was made worse still by the fact that Mr Ambridge senior suffers from Alzheimer’s and so was unaware of the severity of his injuries upon waking up after surgery.
“Dad didn’t know what had happened to his leg,” said Adam.
“When he woke up, he tried walking on it and so he had to go in for another scan.”
Adam has appealed for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage to come forward and aid police in their enquiries.
