The M4 around Newport was closed in both directions last night due to concerns for the welfare of a man.
Gwent Police have confirmed he was stood on the wrong side of the bridge at the Caerleon Road motorway roundabout.
The incident occurred at approximately 6.30pm, a spokeswoman said.
She added: "The M4 was closed in both directions whilst the man was brought to safety by specialist officers."

*UPDATE: SUNDAY 7.15PM*
The M4 has re-opened in both directions.
The road was closed just before 7pm.
It is understood the road was closed to assist emergency services attending the incident, the nature of which is unknown.
But the road re-opened shortly afterwards.
Congestion remains, but is easing.

THE M4 has been closed in both directions near junction 25 at Caerleon.
It is due to what is being described as an "emergency incident".
