TWO Aldi stores in Newport and Cwmbran could be expanded and refurbished, creating up to 10 new jobs.
The discount supermarket has lodged plans with Newport and Torfaen councils to extend stores in Spytty Road, Newport and Woodside Road, Cwmbran.
Both have been trading for around 20 years, but Aldi says the stores no longer meet their requirements in terms of retail sales floorspace, external appearance or customer experience.
Under the plans, the retail areas at both supermarkets would increase by up to 25 per cent.
The warehouse at the Spytty Road store will be rehoused within the new extension and will expand in its new location.
Three new parking bays for staff will be created, while a new meeting room with a roof light will be created.

Meanwhile at the Woodside Road store, it is planned to extend the supermarket by around 10 metres, into the car park, and enlarge the retail area.
The car park will be reconfigured to the new store front, with 111 parking spaces - currently there are 128 customer car parking spaces.
A welfare area will be increased in size to provide a toilet off the shop floor.
New windows in the store overlooking the car park will bring in daylight to the shop floor, while there will also be an improved store entrance, the application says.

Four disabled parking bays will be provided next to the main entrance, along with eight parent and child parking spaces.
The new layout of the store will also allow "unhindered passage" to the whole of the store for disabled wheelchair users.
Aldi says the planned refurbishment will 'refresh' the layout of the stores and bring them up to date with retail and customer requirements.
A spokeswoman for supermarket said: "Aldi does not operate very large stores, but these extensions will provide an improved customer experience with room for the full Aldi product range, wider aisles, more light and improved product displays.
"The increase in size of the store will also mean that up to five new jobs could be created at each store."
