A DRUG dealer who threw a big carrier bag of heroin out of his car window while being chased by police was jailed for more than four years.

Jordan Manley, aged 24, of Maesglas Road, Newport, was caught by officers in the Bettws area of the city, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

The defendant was arrested after being stuck in traffic and hurling the carrier bag out of a black Volkswagen Golf last October.

Police found it and discovered a "large amount of heroin" inside.

Manley admitted possessing heroin with intent to supply and having an offensive weapon – a knuckle duster.

The court was told how he was being pursued by police after he failed to stop for officers .

Manley was jailed for four and a half years by Judge David Wynn Morgan after a trial of issue following his guilty plea.

Outside the court, Police Constable Stephen Jones, of Gwent Police, the officer in the case, said: “At approximately 7pm on 20th October 2018, a black Volkswagen Golf failed to stop for police in the Bettws area of Newport.

“The vehicle was quickly located in the lanes, having become stuck in traffic. The sole occupier, Jordan Manley, attempted to discard a carrier bag out of the vehicle window.

“However, this was quickly recovered. This carrier bag contained a large amount of heroin. Manley was quickly detained and arrested.”

It was said in mitigation that the defendant had pleaded guilty to the offences.
