A CHURCH-GOER who carried out a horrifying Halloween night attack on a former friend with another woman was spared an immediate jail sentence.
Kirsty Bryant was left with blood streaming down her face after being assaulted by her former pal Skye Jacobson and Jackie Garland in Cwmbran town centre outside McDonald’s.
The victim was spat at, had her hair pulled, kicked and hit with a pair of shoes following a “disgraceful episode of public violence”.
Prosecutor Nik Strobl said the pair launched the attack against Jacobson’s ex-pal Miss Bryant who was walking her dog.
The two had been friends but fell out following an “altercation” before this argument broke out in the early hours of the morning.
He told Cardiff Crown Court: “The police were called and they saw visible injuries to the victim.
“Her face was covered in blood from a cut to the top of her head.”
Miss Bryant was taken to Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital where she received stitches for her wound.
Jacobson, aged 18, and Garland, aged 24, both of Blaendare Road, Pontypool, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The attack was captured on CCTV and the footage was played to the court.
Mr Strobl said: “This was a sustained attack with the use of kicks and shoes.”
He added that Jacobson had no previous convictions but Garland had a record for violence following a battery and assaulting police conviction.
Timothy Evans, mitigating for Jacobson, who is the carer for her mother, said: “She is a church-goer who has watched this footage with horror.
“She bitterly regrets what she has done. She vows never to return to any court, let alone the crown court.”
Hilary Roberts, for Garland, said: “She is horrified and mortified by what she has done.
“She is determined to keep out of trouble in the future and has expressed complete remorse.”
Judge Timothy Petts said: “This was a disgraceful episode of public violence, no doubt from people who had too much to drink.”
He jailed Jacobson for eight months, suspended for 12 months, ordered her to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and undertake a six-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
Garland was sent to prison for 10 months, suspended for 18 months, told she must complete a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement and observe a 12-week curfew.
Both defendants must each pay Miss Bryant £200 compensation and a victim surcharge.
