GWENT Police arrested two people in connection with a domestic disturbance in Newport yesterday.

At just after 2pm, around ten police vehicles attended the scene of a domestic disturbance on Bideford Road, in the Maesglas area of the city.

A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of assault. The man was later released without charge.

In a statement, released today, Gwent Police said: "At approximately 2.10pm on Tuesday, 20th February 2019, we received reports of a domestic disturbance at an address in Bideford Road, Newport.

"Officers attended and arrested a 42 year old local man on suspicion of assault and a 21 year local woman on suspicion of assault of police officers.

"The man has since been released without charge.

"The woman has been charged with two assaults on police officers and will appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5th March 2019."
