POLICE were called out to reports of a JCB having been stolen and driven around by youths in Black Ash Park in Newport yesterday.
The JCB had been used to damage park furniture as well as a climbing frame and some football goalposts.
Gwent Police officers attended the scene in the Liswerry area of the city, however those believed to be involved had since dispersed.
Representatives from Newport City Council are now working to clear up the damaged park furniture.
The council released a statement which said: "Newport City Council staff will make the area safe and will remove the damaged equipment this week.
"Goal posts were also knocked over and these will be back in place later this week. There are no planned football matches at the park this weekend."
In a statement, Gwent Police said: “At approximately 18.30pm on Tuesday 26th February 2019, Gwent Police received a report of a JCB being driven by youths in Black Ash Park, Liswerry.
“Offenders caused damage to park furniture including a climbing frame and goal. The local council have been contacted to make the area safe.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 390 of 26/2/2019 or send Gwent Police a direct message on Facebook or Twitter. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 1111.”
