NEWPORT County AFC fans are to be given the opportunity to have their names included in the design of next season's third kit, as the club seeks to support defender Fraser Franks and his family following his retirement from professional football.

The 28-year-old was told to hang up his boots with immediate effect earlier this month due to a heart condition.

Now supporters are to be given the chance to have their names embossed on the shirt for £50 - with all proceeds from the going towards helping support the defender and his family.

There will be a separate purchase price for shirts, to be announced closer to the time of release.

Chosen by Franks himself, the shirt design features the classic County badge on the front in amber, with the rest of the kit in a stylish white.

Franks said: "My family and I are beyond words for how grateful we are to the football club for this amazing gesture.

"I don’t know what the future holds going forward yet but this will be a huge help when it comes to supporting my family and dealing with the next stage of my life.

"I love the design of the kit and I’m sure the players will enjoy wearing it next season and hopefully they'll create some great memories in it.

Supporters' names will be printed on the shirt in grey, standing out from the background of the shirt.

All requests must be submitted via the commercial@newport-county.co.uk email address, including what name you would like to be printed on the kit, as well as how many you names you would like in total.

You have until the week commencing May 6, 2019, to register your interest.

Names will be taken on a first come, first served basis.

Exiles boss Michael Flynn paid tribute to the defender, saying: “He’s a great lad and somebody I tried really hard to bring to the football club because I knew he was such a good leader and player.

“I’m devastated for him personally and it’s a big blow for the team as well.

“He knows I’m always going to be there for him. He has been fantastic for Newport but the most important thing is his long-term health.”
