THE BIGGEST folk festival in Wales is returning for its 30th year, jam-packed with entertainment including a superstar making her UK festival debut.

Tredegar House Folk Festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary from May 10 to May 12, hosting some extremely talented folk musicians with plenty of family fun to be had.

One of the acts includes Patty Gurdy, who will be flying in from Germany, to give guests a taster of her dark folk pop masterfully performed on her hurdy-gurdy.

A hurdy-gurdy is a musical instrument with a droning sound played by turning a handle, typically attached to a rosined wheel sounding a series of drone strings, with keys worked by the left hand.

Ms Gurdy plays with pirate folk metal band, Storm Seeker, but also performs a solo act joined by an acoustic guitarist. She has more than 176,000 subscribers on YouTube and more than 26,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook.

Although Ms Gurdy has a big following in Germany and parts of Europe this will be the first time she has performed at a British festival. She is performing on Saturday, May 11, in the Concert Marquee.
