A PEDESTRIAN killed in a late-night collision on the weekend has been named.
Jordan Routley, from the Newport area, was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital after the incident - which occurred around 11.50pm on Saturday, on Chepstow Road - but later died.
The 21-year-old, who was known for playing football for Pill YMCA, was said to be "very much loved".
His grandfather Will Routley, a Newport councillor, described him as a “loving” person.
Speaking for the family he said: “Jordan has always been and will continue to be a loving, caring individual with a spirit of freedom and a smile that lit up every room.
“His personality was infectious.
"Always caring and considerate to the needs of others.
“Jordan loved all his family and all his family loved him.
“Our hearts are broken by this tragic loss.
“We as a family have been overwhelmed by the show of public affection and would thank everybody for their kindness and love at this difficult moment in time."
A tribute released by Gwent Police on behalf of the family added: "Our beloved Jordan lost his fight for life after a tragic accident on Chepstow Road (Beechwood) Newport.
"Jordan is still very much loved by all his family and friends.
"We ask for privacy to grieve and come to terms with our loss.”
Newport Corinthians AFC also paid tribute on the weekend, saying: "We are sad to hear that Jordan Routley a Pill YMCA player and a big Liverpool fan, sadly passed away in the early hours of today.
"Jordan was a very thoughtful, happy and cheeky young man who will be sorely missed by his loved ones. We the club send our thoughts and prayers to the Routley family."
Gwent Police officers are appealing for information from anyone that could help with their investigation into Mr Routley's death.
In an initial appeal on the weekend the force said a white Isuzu truck had collided with him, near Beechwood Park. Anyone with information, or dash cam footage, is asked to call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log 686 of 20/04/19.
Gwent Police can also be reached through their social media pages on Facebook and Twitter, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
